Welcome to the Bob Prowse Newsletter!!
This page is dedicated to our members and staff who participate in the many events for charity or self achievement. We fully support you all and congratulate you for your effort!
The very first event to be placed on this page is the 36 challenge!! It took place in The Mall, Maidstone on Saturday 13th March and for the 3rd year we won it! The team this year were Paul Slythe, Simon Wilson, Mark Tritton, Martin Brockman, James Alcock and our little firecracker Charlotte Mackie!! So Well Done!!
The report brought back from supporters and our team was that the others we have beaten previously, have been putting in the hours and making us really work for it this time! So well done to them aswell! There is next year to look forward too now.....watch this space!!!
Gaynor completes marathon!!
Yes, our lovely massage therapist, Gaynor, put herself through 6 months worth of serious training to complete her marathon run in under a hopeful 4hrs!
After increasing her training programme and adapting her diet for the 1st Brighton marathon, which included eating pasta and porridge, which she dislikes and very long runs at least 5 times a week, which is bad enough, she completed it in3 hrs and 58 mins!!
We are all very proud of her and glad that she not only ran that distance, but that she completed it in her time frame!! Well done Gaynor!!!
Speak to Gaynor if you are going to take part in any long distance run...she may have tips!!
Ross Brimsted beats previous total in Southeast weight lifting competition!!
He has competed successfully at the British and the Southeast before, but on Sunday 18th April, Ross won the Southeast again, beating his British total weight by 20kg!
Ross has to keep to a strict training routine to achieve this, so all that hard work has paid off!!
This was achieved by Squatting 230kgs (he did try 240, but went to deep), Benched 165kgs and Deadlifting 285kgs. I know what you are thinking....easy!!
We are very proud and wish him lots of pizza eating sessions as a reward!!
David Northcroft - Serious runner!!
Our member David has been a devoted long distance runner for as long as I can remember!! So, because mentioning all of his credits and journeys would take up the entire webpage, I would just like to mention that he has done wonderfully well in all his runs and has gained an awful lot from each of them.
He is often seen in the gym with his running shorts and tops from various events, training in a periodised routine set especially for his much loved hobby. To do this at the level he does is exceptional and alot of hard work is put in to get the results and record that he has to his name.
So Well Done David!! We do notice and appreciate the extra credit help and motivation you give to any runner in our gym!
Martin Brockman - Medals and Personal Bests!
It's a little late in the write up, but we would like to formally recognise that our very own Martin Brockman, won a more than just a Bronze medal in last years Common Wealth games! He managed 7 out of 10 PB's in the competition held in Dehli and is looking forward to trying his best to make the points up to get in to the either the 2012 or the 2016 Olympic Games. We say 'Well done Martin, We are very proud of you and are proud to see you reach all your goals and follow you through all your journeys!!'.
Ian Sage - One mans Journey from Fatness....
Watch this space for Ians notes about how he trained and dieted after gaining weight post operations for his eye. After being told he would not be able to walk outside for 2 weeks after, he was warned off training for an unknown amout of time. Finally the all clear came and we will be logging down details as he goes along! So if you know anyone who is down in the dumps from an operation and has gained weight or is looking for a new way to vent their energy and get strong again, let them tune in here to gain courage about working out.
Along time coming.......
So it has been a while since our last update, as we are in 2012 now,we thought it might be nice to look over the achievement and events of the club. Remember, if you would like to enter anything here that you think is worth mentioning, please speak to Emma!
Martin Brockman does Oz......
After having a very good time in the 2011 Common Wealth Games, he is concentrating on getting those all important points and scores for the Olympics!! Of course we are proud of all he has achieved in 2011, but this year could be promising for him!
He left for Australia just before Christmas and wont beback soon! He regulary posts videos and comments about how he is getting on out there on his Facebook page, but it will be nice to see him home to tell us about his amazing time! He has become alittle bit famous out there though, appearing on theTV and having interviews, plus he is achieving very good scores for everything he is doing out there, such as training and events, so he may have to be dragged home! But if he leaves it too long, he will start to miss us here at Bob's!! Good luck to him from all of us! Hopefully we will be seeing him on our screens this year, so you will all have regular updates on his progression!
Members!!
Our members have been great throughout 2011 with all that has been going on in the building! So a great big thank you to you all! Hopefully this gym will be going through more changes this year, but we know you lot....aslong as the doors are open, you are happy enough! So thank you all again, we really do appreciate your loyalty!
Another plus for the business this year is the fact that there was no snow!! Which meant that January could start off for many as they planned! We have been extremly busy with new members and old members wanting a change or an update on their programme, which is wonderful to see!! Always remember to change your training every 8 weeks roughly to not get too comfortable! Getting cosy issomething reserved for the couch and slippers AFTER you have trained! Always see a member of staff to make big, small or complete revamps to your programme. At first you will hate us for it, but once you see the results, you will get back to loving us again!
Suits you.....
We have had wonderful response to our branded range in 2011! T-shirts, jumpers, bags, towels, scarfs, mugs and hats have been flying off the hangers and we are seeing Bob Prowse scattered all over Maidstone! With thanks to our suppliers as without them it would not be possible! The jumpers and t-shirts have always been popular, but recent orders have seen the Gillet fleece jackets become very popular! They look great, so no wonder!
Brought for yourself or as gifts for others, they are really good quality and look the part! Plus, you spread the word about Maidstone's greatest and most informative gym!
